What is Coronavirus (COVID-19), Symptoms and Prevention Methods?
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. It is a respiratory illness and is related to MERS and SARS, both coronaviruses. Symptoms can include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. It is a good reminder for us to pay attention to how we are feeling and how to prevent spreading germs. Hand-washing, not touching your face, and social distancing are good prevention methods. Employees are always encouraged to engage in good hygiene practices while at work, especially hand washing with soap and water or using alcohol-based disposable hand wipes or gel sanitizers.
Employees are encouraged to visit the Center for Disease Control or World Health Organization websites for the most reliable and current information on Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Employees who are feeling sick or have members in their household who are feeling sick should stay home. We will post signs as reminders to wash hands and cover your cough. In addition, we have made our hand sanitizer dispensers and disinfectant materials available for use throughout the Salon.
In the event an employee displays symptoms of illness related to the latest coronavirus or is subject to a quarantine directive, Ferguson SM, Inc., may allow remote working options for the corporate offices to minimize risk to others.

During Times of Disruption:
There is no doubt that we are in uncharted territory and unprecedented times. Our employees, our customers and our communities are looking to all of us in this time of crisis. This is a time of disruption, across the board. EVERYTHING is being disrupted in our business and in our community. Make a list of all the ways we could be delivering our products and services, and running the business, and ask yourself how can we do this differently or efficiently? Think about what we can control during this time. How do we make changes quickly to adjust to the situation? What bold changes can help us deliver exceptional customer service? For example, we are not just a company that provides beauty services. We offer hygiene services via hair washing as a service, too; in these times, where a lot of our residents can’t wash their hair, we can offer our services to facilitate this. To prevent the build-up of yeast and bacteria, which could cause enough inflammation to lead to some tenderness. Also, by decreasing yeast build-up, you control the level of dandruff. You can also develop a halo of acne by not washing your hair regularly. These are ways to help our residents in the communities we serve.
Know that you are not alone, and we are all in this together. My wife and brothers are on the frontline of this pandemic as Nurses. One of my brothers is an Emergency Room Nurse at Kaiser and has contracted Covid-19 via his patient in his department. My wife and other brother are still safe and free from this virus for now, but we all still need to be vigilant in our daily routines.
As a community, we need to be strong and help our neighbors. Reach out to your friends and family and see if everyone is alright. We will all get through this but have a better chance if we all come together.
